So Little Time

By way of explaining why it's been so long between posts, here's what's on my plate right now:

  1. Getting over a nasty cold that included an entire weekend of laryngitis. Even a week later Napoleona is still asking "You can say it louder Mama?" and Papa is very pleased that at least one part of me resembles Demi Moore. (Sorry Papa, as soon as my raspy throat recovers, she's outta here.)
  2. Helping Napoleona through nightly bouts of coughing as she gets over the same nasty cold. Sucked it up and bought conventional cough suppressant after homeopathics didn't do much.
  3. Working on a freelance editing job. (Finally! A paying job! Woo hoo!)
  4. Trying to find a permanent editing job.
  5. Reading and commenting on all my favorite blogs.
  6. Editing and commenting on a Wikipedia article. (Won't say which one, too much acrimonious stuff going on behind the scenes there. I want to tell these people: come on, it's only a collaborative encyclopedia, back away from the keyboard and take your happy pill of choice.)
  7. Reading all the cool books being recommended on my favorite blogs.
  8. Trying to convince SillyBilly that I'm not a mean Mama, I'm just THE Mama and a 4-year-old doesn't get to tell me what to do. Toddlers, grrrrrr.
  9. Figuring out what clothing items we still need to get for the Huntlings now that we actually have started winter around here. Currently 22F with 20-30 mph winds, crusty remnants of Friday's snow shower littering the ground.
  10. Shipping books out to BookMoochers.
  11. And then there's the cleaning, cooking, diapers, shopping, etc. that still must be done every single day, day after day, endless days upon days. Must...take...a...vacation!

Congratulations on the freelance editing job! That is great.

But isn't laryngitis horrible? I had it once, years ago. Before that I thought it meant you simply lost your voice. I didn't realise the flu-like nasties that go along with it. Please take care.

So little time... I can relate to that. Oh yes, and the one-year-old around here thinks he can tell the Mammy what to do, too. Even though he can't talk yet! The current battle (which he won, I'm afraid to say) is that he must stand up in the bath. GAH!

I hope your daughter is feeling better.

Phew, it is a million degrees celsius here, somehow 22F seems attractive. Can we swap weather just for a few hours? The grass is always greener, I suppose...

I can finally talk almost normally. Perhaps someone up there is telling me to yell at the children a bit less?

Helen: I actually tell my kids to stand up in the bath when I'm washing them! It's so much easier for me and we have a non-slip mat. Then they sit down to play afterwards. Maybe not entirely safe, but it works for me.

I firmly believe in picking battles, otherwise I feel like I'm in a constant battle of wills. And I've realized recently that sometimes I have to let them take risks so that they can learn from mistakes (like if they bang their toys together, they might break or they might not...not the end of the world if they do, so why make a fuss about it?)

Charlotte: It's so hard to see that you are actually coping brilliantly sometimes! But I guess if I look at that long list, it's amazing that all that is happening at once. I love making lists, if only to get all the stuff out of my head and onto paper...it feels like I've exorcised my brain!

You don't really have to apologize for not blogging. But it is fun to see the list of what everybody is doing instead when they do feel compelled to explain.

I am feeling very fortunate that I only have a puppy and cats to try to train rather than a toddler.

Congratulations on the job! Hang in there with everything else--the cold, Demi Moore, and the rest of it shall pass. Someday soon, I hope, for your sake.

Thanks for reminding me - I'm going to look for that non-slip bath mat I've got somewhere. I hope I didn't give it to Vinnies!
